What is Pinterest?
Pinterest is a a visual discovery platform from the United States that allows you to pin and save images and videos for easy organization.
I use it daily to collect references and tips for my design work.
Beyond professional use, I also save images and videos such as my favorite Pokémon illustrations and intriguing interior designs in separate boards.
Ideal Platform for Digital Marketing: Pinterest
While designers and creators often use Pinterest for gathering references, it’s also an excellent marketing tool for businesses such as companies, restaurants, and shops.
By leveraging Pinterest, you can drive traffic to your website, reach potential customers, and increase brand awareness.
I manage three accounts: one personal account and two business accounts.
While I started using my personal account around 2018, I opened the business accounts in January 2023.
How long does it take to achieving 600K Monthly Impressions?
Recently, after 1.5 years of running the business accounts, I finally surpassed 600K monthly impressions!
I began by researching how Pinterest marketing experts manage their accounts, what types of pins get clicks, and how frequently to post.
I knew that “pinning daily” would not be sustainable for me and that I didn’t have enough content for daily posts.
Instead, I adopted a leisurely pace, averaging 1-3 pins per month.
Important Considerations for Pinterest
One key takeaway is that saving other people's content doesn’t directly help your marketing.
When you repin someone else’s content, clicks lead to the original creator’s page, not yours.
This feature actually aligns with my preference.
Many sites and social media accounts collect design references without crediting the original creators, which feels unfair to me sometimes.
Create Your Own Content
While it's possible that designers' PR efforts may be lacking, simply compiling others' works to create a site or social media platform and earning ad revenue from it feels like a "secondhand" approach (excluding cases where the information is shared as references without ads).
In contrast, platforms like Behance and Dribbble link the creators involved in the projects, providing benefits from the perspective of the creators.
I hope more tools will emerge that favor the "creator's" viewpoint.
Ideally, there should be spaces where clients who want to hire a designer and creators who want to connect their work with potential clients can easily find each other.
Slow and Steady Wins the Race on Pinterest
I've seen a lot of information suggesting that the higher your posting frequency (activity rate) on Pinterest, the better.
For instance, bloggers who post daily articles or marketing professionals from companies with a large product lineup might be able to post daily.
However, I only pin my own designs, including work projects and personal creations.
As a result, my posting frequency has been relatively slow, averaging a few times per month. Despite this, I noticed that pins posted in the past continue to generate impressions and saves over time.
Pinning low-quality content (that doesn't get clicks) indiscriminately is pointless. Therefore, I plan to maintain a certain quality and continue to post at a sustainable pace.
