We recently discovered a clearance sale for Herman Miller on the online store of Matisse, which deals with high-end interior furniture and office equipment in New Zealand!

As a freelance designer working from home, I had been using a gaming chair to spend more than 8 hours a day sitting for work and gaming.
Recently, I started experiencing back pain regularly...
While I was quite fond of my gaming chair, my poor posture made me realize that I needed a proper office chair someday.
So, the sale came at just the right time.
On a side note, Matisse's web design is sleek, user-friendly, and beautiful!
Herman Miller: The Dream Chair for Freelance Designers and Remote Workers
As someone who has never been particularly picky about office chairs or interior design, I had only heard of Herman Miller by name, recognizing it as a luxury office chair brand.
However, upon further research, I discovered that Herman Miller is renowned for its "Ergonomically designed, streamlined construction."
Many buyers have used their chairs for over a decade, and the brand is highly rated, especially among those who work from home!
On Matisse's website, they describe Herman Miller as follows: "Herman Miller is a pioneer in the furniture industry, an innovator whose human-centered, problem-solving approach to design has introduced new ways of living and working for over 100 years."
The phrase "Human Centered, Problem Solving" is particularly compelling for any designer.
However, with a price range of $1,100 to $3,000... To be honest, it's quite a significant amount for a freelancer to invest.
Nevertheless, since good health is essential for work, I have decided to evaluate whether this professional Herman Miller Aeron Chair is a worthwhile investment for creating a comfortable workspace as a future remote worker.
Matisse New Flagship Showroom in Auckland
Before making a purchase, we want to try sitting in it in person! So, we've decided to visit their New Flagship Showroom in Auckland.
The showroom was spacious with two floors.
On the first floor, the focus was on fancy kitchen and beautiful home interiors. There were sofas for the living room, dining kitchen setups, and coffee tables displayed.
When we asked a professional staff, they mentioned that the Herman Miller Aeron Chair we was looking for could be found on the second floor.
Heading upstairs, I discovered a section dedicated to office chairs, where various chairs were neatly lined up in a corner!
We went there this time with the Herman Miller Aeron Remastered in mind, but I was really intrigued by the cute desk on the right!
After looking it up later, I found out that the desk was also from Herman Miller ( ゚Д゚) and it costs $7,800… Looks like I still have a lot of work ahead of me, haha.

Herman Miller Aeron Remastered vs Sayl Chair
We decided to compare the seating comfort between the desired Aeron Chair and the Sail Chair, both from the Herman Miller brand.
Visually, I preferred the design of the Sail Chair at first glance.
However, when I actually sat in it, I found the back frame (backrest) to be quite hard.
The Aeron Chair, on the other hand, has a more flexible backrest that naturally tilts back a bit when you lean, making it easier to stretch, which I liked.
The decisive difference was in the seat.
The Sail Chair has a seat pad made of urethane, which feels soft and comfortable on the buttocks, but it might get a bit sweaty in the summer.
On the other hand, the Aeron Chair impressed me with its mesh seat, offering excellent breathability and a lighter feel compared to the Sail Chair.
This mesh material, known as "Pellicle," was specifically developed for the Aeron Chair.
When you hear about mesh materials, they may seem a bit rigid visually, but in reality, they provide just the right amount of softness. It really conforms to your buttocks!
The Pellicle material disperses body pressure, heat, and air circulation, maintaining consistent skin temperature even during long periods of sitting, ensuring continuous comfort. It's truly a design focused on human-centered ergonomics!
The Herman Miller Aeron Chair comes in three sizes: A, B, and C, with A being the smallest and C the largest. Based on my height and weight, the staff recommended size A as the most suitable for me.
They also explained the proper use and correct sitting posture for the Aeron Chair.
I later found out that there's also a gaming edition of the Aeron Chair.
The sleek all-black design looks really cool!
The Matisse showroom we visited this time was spacious, and the staff kindly guided me. If you live near Auckland and are considering purchasing high-end furniture, I highly recommend visiting.
The interior displays are all unique and stylish, making the visit enjoyable just by looking around!
