A World-Famous Art Deco City Napier, New Zealand
Albion Canteen is located in Napier, on the North Island of New Zealand.
Napier is renowned for its stunning Art Deco architecture, making it one of the most famous Art Deco cities in the world.
Every February, the city hosts the Art Deco Festival, attracting visitors from far and wide.
As of 2023, Napier’s population is approximately 67,000.
The last time I visited was around 2022. It’s a charming place where stylish cafés and antique shops line the beachfront.
Simply strolling through the city allows you to immerse yourself in the delightful Art Deco streetscape—a truly picturesque destination!
Enjoy Quality Cafe with a Japanese twist at Albion Canteen
Albion Canteen is located in the city center of Napier, New Zealand.
This lovely café is beloved by a wide range of customers, including local office workers, local kiwis and tourists.
Their drink menu features unique and stylish options, such as the quintessentially New Zealand Hokey Pokey Latte and the refreshing Summer Orange Coffee.

The food menu is equally impressive.
Alongside classics like Eggs Benedict, you’ll find creative dishes such as the Pork Belly Burger with wasabi mayo, seasonal specials crafted by the chef, and a variety of vegan and gluten-free options to cater to diverse tastes.

As of 2024, Albion Canteen is managed by a Japanese owner who brings a distinctive concept: “Quality Café with a Japanese twist.”
The menu blends New Zealand’s café culture with Japanese-inspired sweets and dishes, offering a unique and delightful dining experience.

Background of the Café Menu Design: Easy Editing and Updates
For this project, LITTLE FUJI proposed the menu design for Albion Canteen.
Since the menu is required frequently updates its offerings with seasonal changes, LITTLE FUJI opted to create the new menu in PowerPoint.
This ensures that the client can easily edit and update the menu themselves after delivery.
To accommodate the binder format in which the menu will be displayed, we included extra blank space at the top, where the binder will cover.
Additionally, we set up guide lines in PowerPoint to assist with text placement during future edits.
Proposing a Branding Font for lovely cafe
As part of the menu design process, we also proposed a branding font for Albion Canteen.
We started by discussing the café’s target audience and vision for the future.
Based on this, we articulated the brand’s tone of voice—the unique “character” of Albion Canteen—and created multiple design options for comparison.
By testing these fonts with actual menu content, we worked closely with the client to select the best fit for their brand identity.
Custom Page Design for Binder Display
The menu was designed in A4 size, but the vertical length of each page differs depending on the menu category.
After printing, the pages can be trimmed along guide lines to create a layered effect when stacked in the binder. This way, titles like “Chef’s Specials,” “Drink Menu,” and “Food Menu” remain visible for easy navigation within the binder.

New Zealand Based Japanese graphic designer : LITTLE FUJI design service
Graphic design is typically done using Adobe Illustrator, a professional design tool. However, non-designers usually don’t have access to Illustrator.
With PowerPoint, on the other hand, most people already have it installed on their computers and nearly everyone has some familiarity with it from their school or work.
PowerPoint makes it relatively easy to replace text or images.
By having a professional designer create the layout and branding elements, clients can easily make edits to variable content like text after delivery.
